Dancing with the Waves
by Jean Marie Bumidang
Imagine yourself bathed in the warmth of the sun, the sound of waves as it splashes on the shore. The smell of saltwater as it tickles your nostrils and the taste of beer quenching your thirst as you enjoy the view of the endless horizon. While most of us often relate it to summer vacation, some of us have it every day of the year (IKR!). Our beloved country has been blessed with beautiful white sand and breathtaking beaches that locals and tourists alike visit to experience a taste of paradise.
Aside from the view, another highlight explored by enthusiasts is SURFING. Yep! I’m sure you’ve heard of it, shoutout to the surf buff and babes out there. I, for one, am new to this recreational activity and haven’t done surfing but it's one of the thrills I wish to seek myself.
As not everyone gets to experience this, the word "surf" could be foreign and as defined by vocabulary.com it means "crashing waves," but it's also a verb meaning to ride those waves with a surfboard. When you surf, you stand upright on a board and ride over breaking waves into the shore. The surf is what you see when you stand on the beach and look at the ocean — waves rising and breaking on the shore. It’s also what you do when you ride those waves.
Now for some, surfing is interpreted as a way to pass their time, physical activity to relax. Others see it as a sport to challenge themselves and compete. It could also be a way for others to find a connection with nature. But whichever it is, take courage and surf your way to your goals as we SEEKERS brace ourselves to this wave of COVID19. Our summers might not have been the same as the past years, but this pandemic still brought our families together. While not at the beach, our home will always be worth the quality time spent.
